Essential Snowboard Apparel

The most basic piece of snowboard apparel will be your jacket. Your jacket needs to perform two basic functions: keep you warm and keep you dry. To that end, make sure the shell of the jacket you choose is waterproof. Snow and ice can turn into water very quickly when near close to body heat. As for lining, you need to make sure it is adequate to keep you warm, but also does not inhibit your ability to move. Pay special attention to the cuffs and the way the jacket fits around your hips. Many serious snowboarders prefer a parka that includes a fitted hood; others prefer the easier movement they get with a ski jacket. Try a couple out and see what works best for you.

Pants are another major part of your snowboard apparel wardrobe. Just as with the jacket, you want the pants to be waterproof. Some manufacturers make snowboarding pants that include suspenders or a full body, similar to waders that are made for fishing. Others resemble a regular pair of slacks. Whichever style you prefer, make sure the softshell material will repel liquids and help to hold in the heat.

Gloves are another essential. Your hands need to stay warm and capable of moving, just like your arms and legs. Your gloves should be insulated so provide that warmth without limiting your mobility a great deal. Make sure the gloves will fit well with the cuffs on your jacket, to ensure a good seal against the cold weather. Since we all know how easy it is to lose a glove, consider picking up two pair when you find a style that works for you.

Scarves are not really considered necessary to snowboarding, but they do have a couple of good points in their favor. First of all, they can be used to cover the nose and mouth should the weather turn nasty. Second, some people consider scarves to add a touch of class to your outfit. If you do choose to wear a scarf, make sure it is water-resistant and is made of a material that will provide some protection from the elements.

Unlike scarves, a hat or helmet is very important from a safety perspective. Some snowboarders choose to go for a molded fit with some sort of liner. Others prefer a helmet that resembles a beanie and fits snugly over the hood of a jacket. The helmet is meant to provide not only protection from the elements, but to prevent serious head injuries in the event of an accident.

IT Usage in the Apparel Industry

The Indian Apparel and Textile industry is largely fragmented with the largest player having less than 2% of the market share. Apart from contributing the highest net export earnings (16 per cent), it contributes about 14 percent to the total industrial production and 4 percent to the GDP. It is a labour-intensive industry that provides large-scale employment especially for women since it is non-hazardous, thus creating a level-playing field for them in terms of job opportunity. It is the second largest employment provider in India after agriculture. (Annual Report, 2005-2006, Ministry of Textiles).

For an industry of this stature and size, the usage of IT by the Indian apparel industry has been woefully inadequate. North American and European apparel companies spend about 3 to 5% of their revenues on IT. The Indian apparel industry in contrast, has typically invested less than 1%.

Historically there have been many reasons for this low usage.

1)Earlier most of the software suppliers in the Indian market have been North American or European companies for e.g., in the case of CAD, the earliest vendors in the Indian market were Gerber and Lectra. In 1995 CAD solutions were available for about USD 45000! Today the same solution is available at USD 15000.
2)Earlier vendors had proprietary solutions that were not compatible with other applications. Customers who bought a CAD system had to buy it from the same vendor the next time; this was used for 'vendor lock-in'. Often this meant that the vendor had no incentive for quality support or for innovative research leading to reduced prices.
3)The small pool of professionals trained on IT applications of the apparel industry meant there were not enough people who could be recruited from the market in case someone changed jobs.

Fortunately for India, a lot has changed. Firstly, the Indian Software industry has come of age and India is widely regarded today as one among the hottest destinations for software engineering. Almost all software majors including IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle have engineering and R&D centers in India today.

Secondly, the Indian Auto-ancillary industry is a close parallel. This industry has emerged as a leading sourcing destination for automobile majors. Despite the mounting steel prices and the fact that steel is a major component of the automobile cost; the vehicle costs have remained stable. Are you wondering how? Well, this has been made possible because of IT adoption by the Indian spare-part suppliers. IT has enabled the Indian auto-ancillary industry to streamline their processes and aggressively cut costs. For the Indian apparel industry to emerge as the favourite outsourcing destination for leading brands and retailers world-wide, it needs to emulate the IT strategy of the auto-ancillary industry.

Thirdly, Indian apparel companies have grown from family run to professionally organized set ups, giving more emphasis on implementing IT solutions to increase the productivity and also providing us considerable domain expertise.

Finally, institutions like NIFT, ATDC, ALT, Pearl academy etc played a pioneering role in training large number of professionals for the industry.

Many believe it is only a matter of time before an Indian company scales to become the largest software company globally catering to the apparel industry.

In this scenario, it is only logical that the Indian apparel industry is able to derive benefits of the acknowledged strengths of the Indian software industry.

Indeed it can be argued that, investment in software to create a nimble enterprise that responds to external and internal customers in real time to reduce throughput times, costs and improve quality is India's defense against China's huge factories that derive benefits from economies of scale. This is especially true as India is likely to continue to excel in high value added styles of smaller order quantities.

There are already a number of functionally rich, user friendly software applications available in India. For e.g., REACH CAD, REACH Fashion Studio, REACH Merchandising Manager, REACH Cut planner etc are offered by REACH Technologies and are being used by over 450 clients across the country.

We are already witnessing the emergence of companies like REACH that offer

OPEN solutions: Software applications that will 'talk' to applications from other vendors as well.
MODULAR solutions: Software solutions that are part of a larger suite enabling the customer to choose to deploy what is required as and when required.
EXTENDED PRODUCT SOLUTIONS: Products do not deliver value on their own. Trained professionals in conjunction with the product do. So the vendor who brings to the table the best delivery and commissioning capabilities will have an edge.
RENTALS: Customers will increasingly expect to have solutions 'ON DEMAND' that is they need the solution for a specific time period. They are unwilling to make a capital investment but willing to pay for using the solution on as 'Pay-As-You-Go' basis.

Indian apparel industry will increasingly partner with the Indian software industry in its quest to become a global player in the post-quota era.

The sports apparel business has become one of the more competitive retail industries over the past 20 years. This can be attributed to many factors. Some say it is the growing interest in the games by the younger generation. Other are convinced that it is the ?Cool Factor? to be associated with a particular team. Here is my take on the top five reasons.

Reason one?ESPN has given us complete and total access to each and every sport. Professional and collegiate alike, ESPN is wall to wall sports and has been for the past couple decades. Personalities such as Chris Berman and Dan Patrick have made it fun to simply watch highlights, Sportscenter. Who would have ever thought 30 years ago that what was once a 3-4 minute segment of the news, now would have a channel devoted to sports and that channel would run thirty, sixty, and one hundred twenty minute sports highlight shows,

Reason two?The National Football League (NFL) has grown to iconic levels in this country. The Super Bowl is the single most viewed annual event on American television. Supporting your favorite teams and showing your colors is far more popular than ever. Millions of people have Super Bowl parties wearing their favorite teams? apparel. Whether you are a fan or not, it?s what you wear at these parties.

Reason three?It is a fun business for an entrepreneur to be involved. Sports businesses in general are fun to own and operate. Because of the allure to be associated in some manner in sports, owning a sports apparel store make the owner feel a bit closer to the game. The stores are generally bright and lively and the mood in the stores is typically upbeat.

Reason four?The Cool Factor! Countless millions of sports fans buy team apparel to be part of the crowd they run with. From oversized baseball jerseys to team hats made out of any assortment of colors, it is sheik to be seen in the trendy sports apparel. You can get a Cincinnati Reds hat in as many as five different colors. The people that buy these hats do not care so much about the team. It?s a fashion statement they are making.

Reason five?The almighty dollar! Although there is extreme competition in this industry, it is all about the money for many store owners. The margins in this industry are large. The guesswork on teams is not very difficult. Stocking the right products is relatively simple. The sports apparel industry is so competitive because so many owners are making money. Until the gravy train decides to slow down, don?t look for many owners to get off the train.

More and more sports apparel franchises are bound to open up at your local mall. It is not a fad, sports apparel is here to stay. It?s a fun business and always seems to have something newsworthy to talk about.

For the store owners, sit back and enjoy the ride. And for the rest of you wanting to get into the industry, find a good location and join the fun.

Market Overview

Textile and Apparel industry has a great contribution to the Turkish economy. The industry has been denominated as the locomotive of the Turkish Economy for years. Turkey's textile and apparel exports continued rising recently after began falling in January, with elimination of EU and US quotas.

The industrialisation efforts of the 60's and 70's gave birth to the modern textile industry in Turkey. At the beginning, this sector was operating as small workshops. But the sector showed rapid development and during the 1970's began exporting. Today, Turkey is one of the important textile and clothing producers and exporters in the world.

Turkey's textile and clothing manufacturers began relocating production in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In the last three years, Turkish textile and apparel companies faced raising difficulties, after having substantially succeeded in the eighties and the first part of the nineties.

Chinese textile exports after a decades-old quota system limits ends on January 1, 2005 and the World Trade Organization believes that within three years the Asian giant could be producing over half of the world s textiles, up from 17% in 2003.

The end of the quota regime has spawned fears of widespread job losses around the world, including in Turkey, whose own textiles and apparel exports stand at around $20 billion a year.

Thus, it is necessary to understand the Turkish textile and apparel sector, the weakness and the strength it has in the World market.

Current scenario of Textiles and Apparels in Turkey

The textile and apparel sector has been the backbone of the Turkish economy with a vital role to play in the industrialisation process and market orientation of the economy in the last two decades. In the 1980s, it was the leading sector related to the global economy and the export revenues of this hard currency earning sector contributed substantially to the overall economy. The textile sector continued to be one of the major contributors to the Turkish economy, being one of the fastest growing sectors in the 1990s with an average 12.2% annual growth, while the Turkish economy had an average growth of 5.2% per year. Total investment in the sector exceeded US$ 150 billion, of which more than US$ 50 billion was invested in the last 5-10 years.

Textile industry started out in the 1960s in small workshops, have rapidly developed and transformed Turkey into a global competitor.

The total number of firms in the sector, dominated (95%) by the private sector, number around 44,000 and 25% of them are active exporters. The apparel industry is constituted mainly (80%) of small and medium sized firms whereas the technology-intensive textile production has been undertaken by large-scale companies. Today, around 20% of Turkey's 500 largest companies are involved in the textiles and apparel sector.

Low labor costs, a qualified workforce, relatively cheap raw materials have played an important role in the significant growth of the sector; as well as a liberalized economic environment and export-led policies in the last two decades.

The production value of the sector is over US$ 20 billion. Employment in the sector is estimated to be about 4 million people (2.5 million employed directly and a further 1.5 million indirectly through the sub-sectors). Official statistics also reveals that around 500,000 employees in the sector due to unregistered labor force.

The apparel sector exports approximately 60% of its production. Capacity utilization rates are approximately 75% especially among exporting manufacturers.

Turkey ranks also among the top ten global producers of wool cloth, carpets, synthetic filament and fiber, polyester and polyamide filament. While Europe's 3rd largest polyester producer is a Turkish-US joint venture, Turkey's synthetics production mounts to 15% of Western Europe's capacity.

Economic Contribution

Textile and clothing industry has a great contribution to the Turkish economy. For example, textile and clothing industry accounts for:

. 40 % in industrial production

. 30% manufacturing labor force

. 35% of exports earning

The textile and apparel sector contributes over 20 billion USD to the Gross National Product. The sector is mostly important for its export earnings; its share in the country's total exports has been between 33-39% since 1990.

The major export market for Turkish textile and apparel goods is the EU countries, which account for about 65% of total textile and apparel exports. Turkey ranks 2nd in apparel and textile imports to the EU having an 8.2% and 4.8% share in the EU's total textile and apparel imports respectively as of 2003.

Export scenario

Textile and apparel exports increased by 14.6% on average per year during 1980-2003. Especially until the second half of 1990s, the sector's exports increased at a rate above the increase in total exports of Turkey as well as the increase in global textile and apparel exports. In 2003, the sector's exports totaled US$ 15.1 billion, having a share of 32.6% of the total exports. Exports rose to 23% in 2003, terms of value to 2002. The increasing share of apparels in exports since 1986 signifies the efforts to produce more value added products.

After the EU, the USA is a big and impending market. Turkey is the 19th apparel supplier and ninth textile supplier of USA with a 1.9% and 2.9% share respectively. Beside the EU and the US market, new markets are North African countries namely, Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria; Middle East countries namely Syria, Israel and Saudi Arabia; Eastern European countries namely Romania, Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary; and CIS countries. The sector faces quotas only in the USA and Canada. The Russian Federation was also a big market for the Turkish textile and apparel sector till the financial crisis of August 1998. It was the 3rd biggest market for apparel and 9th for textile products in 1997. Russia is still a promising market for textile and apparel sectors with its high consumption potential that will come out in the following years especially after developments towards better integration to the world economy and WTO membership prospects.

Cotton market

Turkey is a very important cotton country, which is an advantage in raw materials, for the clothing industry. Turkey is a traditional cotton producer and uses this advantage in the textile and apparel sector. Turkey ranks 1st in Europe and 6th in the world cotton production with an average production of 800,000-900,000 tons per
year. Moreover, with the completion of irrigation projects within Southeastern Anatolian Project (GAP), Turkey's most comprehensive development program, current cotton production is expected to double by the year 2005.

During 2003-04 season Turkey produced 893,000 tons of cotton. About 30% of the cotton production is high quality long staple cotton and the rest is of medium quality. The cotton industry provides a competitive edge to the textiles industry, which utilizes cotton as its essential raw material.

Cotton Market Trends
Main destinations for cotton yarn exports are Italy, Portugal, Greece and Belgium and for cotton fabric the UK, Italy, USA and Belgium. Whilst Turkey used to be a net exporter of cotton, the trade balance reversed in 1992 and since then Turkey has been a net importer of cotton since domestic demand has persistently exceeded available stocks. Beside cotton, Turkey has a strong standing in synthetic fiber, wool and mohair productions. Turkey ranks ninth in synthetic fiber, eighth in wool and third in mohair production in the world.

Home Textile Industry

Besides the Turkish textile industry Turkish home textile industry has also shown a growth in terms of production and exports. In recent years the production of home textiles has shown a stable increase due to the rise in domestic and external demand for home textiles. Turkish home textile industry has recorded growth in terms of production and exports in recent years. Almost all kinds of home textiles are produced in Turkey. These may be listed as follows in order of their export values: bed linens, bedspreads, table linens, towels, bathrobes, voiles, curtains, lace, interior blinds, curtain or bed valances, blankets, cushions, pillows, quilts, eiderdowns.

In home textile sector, besides large scale firms there are many small and medium sized firms scattered all around the country. As a division of the textile industry, the home textiles sector accounts for 3.2% share in Turkey's total exports and have been an important sub-sector for the Turkish economy. European countries are the most important markets for Turkey s home textile exports. At present Germany, the UK, France, the USA, Netherlands and Russian Federation are the major markets for Turkey s home textile exports. New markets such as Poland, Hungary, Romania and CIS countries are gaining more and more importance.

Foreign Investments in the Sector

The products of the Turkish textile and apparel sector have a good reputation in foreign markets as a result of the availability of high quality cotton in Turkey, wide usage of CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) and the increase in the number of qualified personnel.

Conclusion

The sector is aware of the trend in international markets towards increasing demand for healthier and more environmentally friendly products and tries to adapt itself to these developments by legal and technical regulations.

Nevertheless, it is hard to keep its competitive position in the world market full of emerging players. Thus, manufacturers have shifted their operations to value-added products and creation of brand names. Currently, 30% of Turkish manufacturers have their own designs and brands in international markets.

As current studies reveal, developed countries will have a decreasing share in global textile production while the developing countries will increase their manufacturing capacity to meet the increasing demands. It is also estimated that by 2005, the developing countries will increase their self-sufficiency in textile production. The US with an estimate of 200% increase in textile consumption is also estimated to have a 32% decrease in self-sufficiency by the year 2005.

Turkey, with its adaptability to European standards and regulations related to environment, health, quality, and safety is aiming to move into the production of more and more value added products, into an era in which the Turkish textile industry will be known for its quality trademarks and will be pricing a product for the Made in Turkey sign.

Can You Buy Wholesale Clothing?

Wholesale clothing appeals to most everyone. The idea of purchasing clothing at the lowest possible wholesale prices means that we can buy twice as much. Well it really doesn?t work that way. Buying clothing wholesale is reserved for merchants with vendor?s licenses. Now you may think that you are buying womens clothing wholesale or childrens clothing wholesale because of the advertising put before you, but it is really not.

Factory outlet malls give you the impression that you are purchasing products directly from the factory at wholesale prices. Wholesale clothing manufactures do indeed have factory outlet stores, but they are not selling merchandise at wholesale prices. After all they are renting premium store space and paying a sales staff to sell the products. This cost is added to the wholesale cost. You may be able to buy merchandise cheaper at a factory outlet mall, but you are not buying it wholesale.

Another myth is the wholesale clubs. You may think that these clubs sell wholesale groceries or wholesale club clothing, but that is not so. Here again, they have the same expenses as a retail store. There are advertising expenses, sales staff, building, insurance, and utility expenses that all have to be added to the prices. Granted that because you are buying in bulk, you can save lots of money, but you are not buying wholesale.

To purchase wholesale mens clothing, wholesale girls clothing, or wholesale dog clothing, you have to buy in quantity and you need a vendors license. Merchants that sell at flea markets sell their products at low prices because they have a license, buy in large quantities, and have little overhead expenses. Entrepreneurs who sell on Ebay or other such online auction sites have acquired their products the same way.

Wholesale clothing is purchased directly from the factory or a jobber in large quantities so that the purchaser, or what we call the retailer, can sell it in smaller quantities, at higher prices, thus reaping a profit. That?s what makes the world go around.

So the next time you see a sign saying wholesale designer clothing, or wholesale fashion clothing, in a retail establishment, don?t let them fool you. They are making a profit on these clothes that they bought at wholesale prices.

Wearing your hockey team's colors is probably the best way to display team support and identify you as a big fan. No matter whether you wear just a baseball cap or go the route of wearing a regulation jersey, people will know who you think is the best hockey team out there.

The greatest tribute to your team is the hockey jersey. You can get them in both home colors and away colors; the price depends on whether you go for a knock off or buy an authentic jersey from the NHL. They look great in the arena or anywhere you want to show off your team. You throw on a pair of jeans or shorts, a hockey jersey and maybe a baseball cap and you'll look great in the stands, rooting for your team at the game of your choice. It looks nice to see a lot of people wearing the team colors in the stands at home games.

One interesting twist on hockey jerseys is to buy one of the jerseys that sport the name and colors of a team that no longer exists or has moved to another location. Take, for example, the old Minnesota North Stars team. They've moved to Dallas and are called the Dallas Stars but people still remember the old team and appreciate seeing and wearing their colors and old logo. Some of that kind of hockey apparel has some actual value beyond just being nostalgic. If you wear a jersey that isn't made anymore, it has a fair amount of collector's value.

Don't just restrict yourself to the jerseys, either. There are emblems on things like T shirts, ball caps, sweatshirts and just about anything you can wear. They often sport both the team's emblem and their colors. Some places where you can get these things include NHL stores, the Internet, sporting goods stores and sometimes at the arena itself. Some are higher priced than others but I'd go for whatever you like that fits within your budget. Don't forget the minor league teams, high school teams and even college teams. They have their colors and apparel, too. You can mix and match or change your attire depending on who's playing at the time or on a particular day.

If you actually play hockey, you can have your team all wear the same items with the team logo on them. You don't have to wait until game time to promote yourself and to promote the team you're on. It can really change the popularity of the team you play for.

Business Etiquette ? Major Shortage on the Fashion Police Force

There it was! The perfect outfit I?d been looking for to wear when I go on my cruise to the Bahamas. A metallic crop-top cami, a floaty sheer chiffon tiered skirt, strappy stiletto sandals, lots and lots of bangle bracelets, and enough stringed beads to be the envy of any fortune teller. Where did I see this? Not on a runway. Not in the pages of Elle. Not on the ?hot fashion trends? segment of Today. No, this little number was courtesy of an intern on her way to a business briefing.

I thought she might be auditioning for a part in Carmen after work, but not so. Apparently she sees each new day as an opportunity to dazzle her bosses and coworkers with her fashion savvy. Someone desperately needs to tell this young woman that unless she signs a major recording contract or plans to start reading palms full time, she should forget about setting trends and focus instead on developing a professional image.

In my completely subjective opinion, the end of civilization as we knew it started when people began wearing athletic shoes and sweats at work. Okay, so jogging or walking midday is healthier than gorging on nachos and Ho-Hos at a desk, but did anyone else notice that even those who weren?t exercising during lunch started to wear Reebok?s with business attire? While I don?t doubt that some people were genuinely intent on improving their health by moving more and eating less, plenty either liked the comfort of such clothes or they were trying to convince themselves and others that they were actually getting buff by just dressing the part.

This was the first chink in the wall of decorum, and from what I?ve seen recently, that wall?s about ready to come ?a-tumblin? down.? Consider the establishment of ?Casual Friday? in so many businesses?clearly linked to bringing the gym into the workplace. Now employees are trying to bring the weekend into the workplace as well. What is the thinking behind this trend? Is this a subtle indication that we are buying in to the idea of a four-day work week? Is this in some way supposed to appease disgruntled employees?

Even if it started out to be some sort of perk, dressing down at the end of the week has been twisted beyond recognition. This is proof of that old expression: ?Give ?em an inch, and they?ll eat the whole enchilada.? Warm weather makes the situation even worse.

Granted, we expect to see more flesh in the summer than at any other time of the year. Wherever people choose to take a break from work and rising temperatures (the beach, a park, mountain trails), we aren?t shocked by the sight of bare arms, legs, backs, midriffs, or feet. We can even understand a more pared down approach to dressing in the workplace when temperatures soar, but even so, overexposure and lack of discretion have reached epidemic proportions. Where are the fashion police when you need them?

Just because it?s hot, this is no reason to ditch your duds or common sense as you head off to work. Most indoor workplaces are air conditioned these days, so it?s not as though you?ll be putting in time at a sauna, unless that?s where you work. If that is where you work, then you can stop reading now. For the rest of you, keep going.

Many of you probably had mothers or grandmothers who advised you to always wear clean and intact undies when you left home, just in case you got hit by a bus and had to be whisked off to an emergency room somewhere. The presumption was that you actually would be wearing something over your ?unmentionables.? Apparently that part of the message got lost in recent years. Consider the popularity of such items as camisoles, belly shirts, halter tops, and miniskirts. While these are fine away from work, they are not okay at work?ever!

So who is to blame for the fashion crimes that abound in workplaces today? From what I?ve been able to tell, the fault lies with two entities: 1) employers who have let the ponies out of the starting gate and can?t corral them back in, and 2) employees who have never heard of dressing for success. Here are a few tips for both sides.

For Supervisors

- If your organization has no dress code, establish one.

- If your organization has one, enforce it.

- Set the standard by being compliant yourself.

- You are your employees? supervisors, not their pals. Speak up when your sensibilities are assaulted.

- If all else fails, send employees home who are inappropriately dressed for your workplace.

For Employees

- Know your organization?s dress policy.

- When in doubt, stray on the side of conservatism.

- If you hope to advance in your organization, emulate the style of those whose -positions you would like to have.

- If you expect to be treated professionally, look professional?even on ?Casual Friday.?

- Use common sense and realize that the media sell trends and not necessarily good taste.

Obviously the standards will vary from one workplace to another. If you work for an organization that requires wearing a uniform, you can quit reading now. If you work for a business that is nontraditional and rather laissez-faire where work attire is concerned, you can stop too. For the rest of you who work in places that have established rules that can be misinterpreted or pushed to the limits, stop and look in the mirror before you leave home. Ask yourself: Does what I have on reflect the image my business wants its clients or customers to see?

I?m not suggesting you need to be unduly formal. After all, evening wear in the workplace would be just as inappropriate as a thong bathing suit. Somewhere between these two extremes is a ?happy medium? that will allow you to do your job and look professional. In the meantime, don?t rely on fashion or style magazines to determine what is appropriate for your workplace. Save the trendy items for your hours away from work?no if?s, and?s, butts, or bellies about it!

At the center of Mary Monroe's "In Sheep's Clothing" is twenty-eight year old Trudy Bell. Seeking to become her own woman, Trudy's search for herself truly begins when she lands a job at a travel agency. Published by Kensington Publishing Corporation, "In Sheep's Clothing" (ISBN: 0-7582-0345-4) might appeal to readers who enjoy mainstream fiction that also contains a touch of mystery, suspense, and adventure.
The story's conflict begins in the book's first sentence, immediately involving the reader. Complications arise that are likely to bring readers to the proverbial edges of their seats, keeping them turning the pages as they continue on with Trudy Bell's journey. A satisfying climax and conclusion complete the story. There is also a list of questions provided at the back of the book that a book club might use to fuel its discussion of the novel.
Through first person point of view, the author does an excellent job at creating complex characters that readers can thoroughly see and hear through Trudy Bell's point of view. It has been said that the narration of a first person point of view character cannot always be trusted, but the author presents Trudy Bell in a way that made me trust Bell's viewpoints and opinions of the other equally well-rounded characters despite Trudy being involved with some of the deception that occurs in the story. Quirkiness and unique physical attributes also help make the characters stand out.
"In Sheep's Clothing," written after Mary Monroe fell victim to identity theft, touches on the themes of self-identity, envy, revenge, betrayal, and race. The book also addresses the pursuit of happiness, and whether or not the grass is truly greener on the other side.
The first Mary Monroe novel that I had read, I found the book well-written, fast-paced, and engaging. There were even a couple of moments when I laughed aloud. Usually a consistent mystery and suspense reader, I considered reading "In Sheep's Clothing" as stepping outside of my box. It was a detour I was glad I had taken. I believe other readers will not be disappointed, either, if they were to read the book, also.

Worker Salary (In A Clothing Factory)?

Ever wonder how much the workers are getting paid in a clothing factory? I?m sure most of you wake up, get into your nice little Japanese cars (some of you European!) and drive off to work. On the way, you grab a cup of Starbucks for 3 bucks and then head off to your office.
While you may think your work is hectic and you?re not getting paid enough, stop to think what others are making on the other side of the world. Minimum wage, depending on the province you are in, is around 70 US dollars a month (if you are lucky)!
These factory workers work long hours (above 60 hrs / week), they have repetitive work (imagine sewing for 10 hours a day), and they make peanuts (not even salted). That is why everything in China is MANUAL, its so cheap. In order to run a clothing factory in the US, everything would need to be automatic.
Salary is way too high as minimum wage is around 7 dollars / hr. Imagine, for 70 dollars, you can only hire a US citizen for 10 hours!! Even if everything is automatic in your US clothing factory, you would still need at least one person to look after things (security guard maybe?). By hiring 1 US citizen in the US, you can hire around 16 people in China!!
Some may say that cost of living is lower in China so even if you only make $70 you are still getting a nice life. For those of you that think that, I will personally invite you to China and give you $70 a month and let you have a try. Not fun, I guarantee it!

From newborn onesies to one-piece sleepers, baby clothing, at the core of its design, must successfully merge form with function. But when it comes to winter baby clothing, another level of need is added. Clearly, winter baby clothing must protect babies from the elements while still maintaining its comfort and visual appeal. Winter baby clothing comes in a variety of styles and colors from which to choose. Be sure to keep materials soft and comfortable. And be wary of complicated fasteners that can serve to make dressing a hassle and baby uncomfortable.

When it comes to keeping your baby warm and dry in harsh weather, ultimately the key is the layering of winter baby clothing. Begin with a onesie that provides a first layer of protection and keeps heavier material away from baby?s sensitive skin. Over the onsie, as a second layer of winter baby clothing is the baby?s outfit. Keep it simple; because a heavier layer is still to come for outdoor wear, keep this second layer soft and uncomplicated, such as a one-piece sleeper. If this particular outfit has feet then you can skip the socks; if not, put the baby in warm socks that extend past the ankle.

The final layer of winter baby clothing is that of outdoor wear. A traditional winter coat and gloves may be great for older babies, but for younger babies you?re best to go with a one-piece winter bunting that zips up the front and covers baby?s feet and hands. There is also a hood attached although you still want to be sure to include a hat that fits securely around baby?s ears.

Of course the material and weight of the winter baby clothing that you choose depends largely on the climate in which you live. For snowy regions, a heavier bunting with a moisture retardant outer layer works best. For milder climates, a fleece material may work well during winter months. Be mindful of using too heavy a material then is necessary; it is important that your baby not become overheated.

You can find baby winter clothing in a variety of locations including large retail stores, smaller boutiques, and online through a series of reputable retailers.

Internet Baby Clothing Surprise

As a Grandfather now, I am trying hard not to get left behind in this ever so changing world of technology. So I thought that I would turn to the internet to do some shopping for my new Granddaughter. After all, this is the way of the new millennium isn?t it? No fighting the crowds at the mall, and no searching for that parking space that is so close to the front door so that you can avoid as much exercise as possible. And no direct contact with people. This is the real appealing part. I won?t have to smile back at the friendly sales clerk, or say thank you to anyone. It is all plastic and electric.

But to my surprise, internet shopping for infant clothing is not what I thought it would be. I found a website that I thought was baby clothing titled Baby Phat Clothing, but I could not find any baby clothing at all. They had teenage clothing and adult clothing, but no baby clothing. Their Baby Phat clothing line included Baby Phat clothing for women, but no clothing for my Granddaughter at this stage of her life. Even though I found a site for Baby Phat wholesale clothing, it did be no good.

So in my search I came across customized baby clothing, organic baby clothing, baby boy clothing, discount baby clothing, baby boutique clothing, and the strangest of all, Adult Baby Clothing. Now this site will open your eyes to the world of strange. There is actually a website that sells baby clothing for adults to wear. Why an adult would want to wear baby clothing is beyond me. But apparently there are enough of those people out there to keep a business going. All of a sudden internet shopping was not what I thought it would be. It is easy to get lost in this electronic world. I had no idea what kind of shops that I would walk into.

Now I did find some baby clothing stores on the internet, but by now the crowds at the mall don?t look too bad, and I guess I could use a little exercise. So I think that I am off to the mall to look for that smile on some friendly clerk?s face and I?ll smile back and say thank you. I?ll save the latest technology for the next generation who don?t know any better.

Understanding Women Hijab, Abaya for woman and other Islamic and Muslim Clothing

Muslims follow the religion of Islam. As part of their religion they believe Allah to be their Creator, God and sustainer. Allah revealed the Quran (Islamic religion's holy and noble book) and in it Allah has provided the commandments to all human beings to believe in only one creator (Allah), provided the guidance to live ones life, the concept of life and death, punishment and rewards after death in the next life, and many other such commandments.

Since the creation of the heavens and the earth, Allah has revealed his message to prophets and messengers. Some of the prophets included Jesus (son of Mary), Jacob, Joseph and Muhammad. Allah revealed his message on his prophets and messengers in the form of scriptures and holy books. These books include Bible, Torah and the Quran. Overtime, Allah's message was changed by the people for various reasons. Allah sent Muhammad (saws) as the last prophet and revealed his last book, the Quran (also referred to as Koran) on Muhammad. The Quran has remained unchanged since its revelation more than 1500 years ago as Allah has promised that it would be free from any human changes until the day of judgment.

The foundations regarding Islamic Clothing are mentioned in the Quran and through Prophet Muhammad's (saws) teachings and practices. The primary purpose of Islamic Clothing is to cover a man and a woman's body as prescribed by Islamic law. This article briefly delineates the various forms of Islamic Clothing worn by Muslims across the world.

The common Islamic teachings require women to cover all their bodies with the exception of the front part of the face and hands (from the wrist area to the fingers). All other areas are required to be covered.

Understanding the concept of "Islamic clothing" also requires an understanding of the term mahram and non-mahram. Although Muslim men and women are required to dress modestly at all times, a Muslim women is usually not subject to the same Islamic teachings in front of mahram men. Mahram men include husbands, brothers, fathers, fathers-in-law, sons and certain other close relationships. Everyone else not permitted in Islamic religion fall under the category of non-mahram.

Abaya

Abaya are robes like dresses that Muslim women wear on top of regular clothing. The primary purpose of wearing an abaya is to completely cover oneself so as not to expose any bodily attributes or beauty as Islam instructs women to guard their beauty from all men except those who are specifically allowed.

Head abaya - Certain religious interpretations require a women to dress in clothing that should not expose any body formations whatsoever. In such cases, Muslim women wear abaya dresses that rest on top of their heads and extend below the ankles. This ensures that a women's body formations stay hidden from men who are not lawful to a woman.

Black abaya - Black abaya are more commonly worn in black in most middle eastern countries, especially those in the Guf region. These countries include Saudi-Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and other neighboring countries.

White abaya - These abayas are populary worn in Far Eastern muslim countries.

Colored abaya - As abaya are popularly worn among Muslim women, abaya designers have created new abaya fashions and have designed embroidered and colored abaya. These abaya are popularly worn in Jordan, western countries and are also now being worn in Middle Eastern countries.

Abaya dresses come in many types of fabrics. However, Rayon/Polyester material is the most common fabric used in their manufacture. Other fabrics used include cotton, chiffone and georgette.

Jilbab

The word Jilbab refers to "something that covers". Jilbab are often used synonymously with Abayas. However, new clothing trends set Jilbab apart from Abaya dresses. Jilbabs are more fashionable and western looking long coat like dresses that cover the body. Most women weart Jilbab over regular clothing.

Hijab

Hijab is a headcover that Muslim women usually wear to cover their hair and head. The word Hijab is a derivative of the Arabic word "hajaba" that means "to conceal". Certain Islamic interpretations refer to Hijab as covering the face as well as the head. The most common interpretation refers to covering the head and the hair.

The requirements for covering the hair is in the most common and accepted Islamic teachings that requires Muslim women not to show any bodily hair to men whom they are not related to in certain relations. For example, Muslim women do not have to cover their head and thus can show their hair to their fathers, husbands, sons, fathers and other men who are specifically allowed as "mahram" (legal). For all others that are not specified in the Islamic teachings, the Muslim women are required to cover their head and head hair.

To enable Muslim women to abide by the Islamic teachings, manufacturers have designed many forms and designs of Hijab. Certain are basic scarves and shawls like fabrics that Muslim women can use to cover their hair by folding the scarves and shawls in a certain patterns. Others are sewn to better fit the head area, and to cover the hair without the hair slipping out of the Hijab. Others Hijab styles come in a pair in which one piece is a cap that covers the hair while a shawl covers general coverage of the head area.

Hijab garments are most commonly available in cotton and polyester blend fabrics. Cotton is more commonly used in the summer as cotton is a breathable fabric and allows Muslim women to stay cool in the summer months. Polyester blend fabrics however are most commonly and widely used.

Scarves / Shawls

Scarves and Shalwls are worn as Hijab to cover the head fully, the neck and the upper chest areas of the body. Scarves and shawls worn for this purpose usually have larger dimensions to provide coverage of the mentioned areas. As scarves and shawls are worn by non-Muslim women as well, Muslim women find larger selection of designs and colors and therefore use them as Hijab.

Niqab

Niqab is a garment that enables Muslim women to cover their faces from non-mahram men. Niqab is widely used by Muslim women who believe in the Islamic teachings of covering ones face also (besides the head and hair) from non-mahram men. Figure 5 illustrates Niqab.

Long Skirts

As Muslim women are required to cover themselves from top to toe, long skirts are popular among Muslim women. These popular skirts extend all the way upto the ankles to provide full coverage of the legs.

Long skirts are commonly found in western markets and therefore are less challenging to find and wear for Muslim women.

Long Blouses

As mentioned earlier, one of the primary requirements of dressing up in front of non-mahram men is that Muslim women dress modestly and not reveal their bodies in the nude or by wearing tight clothing that reveals body shapes and contours. As wearing trousers sometimes makes it challenging to meet that requirement, Muslim women prefer wearing long tops and blouses to cover the hip and waist area.

Can You Make Money Selling Used Clothing At Flea Markets?

Used clothing has long been a staple segment of the flea market business.
Vendors would either unload their no longer needed clothing, or buy it from a local Salvation Army thrift shop.
Flea market vendors could make good money selling used clothing, often working on profit margins of over 500%.
Many established businesses set themselves up to supply used clothing to flea market vendors, offering pieces of clothing for as low as .25 each.
Vendors could then resell the clothing for $1 to $2 each, enjoying great returns while saving their customers plenty of money.
So it?s only natural for prospective flea market vendors to consider selling used clothing.
The pros are pretty clear. High margins combined with low priced goods mean that anyone can easily buy profitable merchandise to sell.
But based on the market research I have done, I have determined that used clothing is no longer a good category for flea market vendors.
My reasons are the following:
Reason #1
The price of new clothing is dropping drastically. Customers can now buy brand new clothing at Wal Mart for around $5, or even less at many dollar stores. Why should they buy previously worn clothing when the savings become pennies?
Reason #2
Better quality clothing. Clothing manufacturers are producing better quality clothing which lasts longer. Customers know that it is worthwhile to spend a few dollars more for new clothing. Since the clothing will last them longer, they will save more money than if they had to replace the used clothing in a few months.
Reason #3
Rising incomes. With the overall per capita income rising in the United States, most people can easily afford new clothing. While there will always be poor consumers, their buying power will increase as clothing manufacturers reduce the price of new clothing. In other words, as the price of new clothing decreases, more people will buy new only.
